American Beverage Association Answers Your Questions

Q:  Should I be concerned about the safety of the plastic container my bottled water is in?

A:  No. The beverage industry’s bottled water containers pose no public health risk, including any alleged risk associated with bisphenol-A (BPA). In fact, the plastic used in our bottled water and soft drink containers (PET), as well that used in our other beverages (PETE), does not contain any BPA. Further, our containers are hygienically sealed, allowing us to bring our products to market in a shelf-stable way, and are 100 percent recyclable.
