Kurt Manufacturing designs and builds a wide variety or precision measuring systems for use in the beverage and food container industries. Kurt gages are built using a variety of measurement capturing methods that include contact measurement, pressure load sensing, laser scanning or vision imaging depending upon the application. The Kurt measuring systems are available as manually loaded bench-top type gage stations or as fully automated machines. The real-time data collected can be analyzed with our data management software and/or uploaded to other data processing or networking packages through simple csv type text files. Typically cans can be measured in 10 seconds or less with data collected in dynamic modes (such as for wall thickness) at 1000 readings per second. The gage stations can be delivered to measure multiple sized containers.
Kurt also produces food can and lid inspection machines for critical features including the bead and edge forms. Multiple sizes of lids can be stacked and automatically processed with the real-time data captured and stored for analysis. For the filling operations, Kurt produces a Top Load gage that measures the pressures exerted on a container during the filling and capping operation. The Top Load gage is a battery operated device that exactly mimics a container during the filling process. The Top Load gage is placed in-line during the filling like any other container. While the filling line is run at full speed, the Top Load gage will look like any other container being processed, but in fact will measure the pressures exerted on the top of the container during the process.
The measurements are recorded in real-time at speeds up to 500 readings per second and are stored and/or transmitted through blue-tooth for evaluation. The measurement recording is user programmed to start when a certain weight threshold is met and will then record for a programmed period of time or number of data points captured. The Kurt Top Load gage is capable to be used in container sizes as small as the slim cans as well as much larger containers.
