Beverage Industry Responds to Paper on School Beverages

"By looking at data from 2004 and 2007, this study ignores the dramatic changes in the school beverage landscape achieved by our industry over the last five years, making it effectively useless. In fact, by offering only juice, low-fat milk and water in elementary and middle schools, with the addition of lower-calorie and portion-controlled beverages in high schools, the signatory companies drove an 88 percent reduction in beverage calories shipped to schools since 2004. President Clinton called this ‘breathtaking progress' and applauded industry for its' ‘good faith and aggressiveness' in implementing the guidelines."

Beverage Industry Delivers on Commitment to Remove Regular Soft Drinks in Schools, Driving 88% Decline in Calories

America's leading beverage companies have delivered on a three-year commitment with the Alliance for a Healthier Generation, a joint initiative of the American Heart Association and the William J. Clinton Foundation, to remove full-calorie soft drinks from schools across the country and replace them with lower-calorie, smaller-portion beverages. As a result of the landmark agreement there has been an 88 percent reduction in calories from beverages shipped to schools since 2004.

Beverage Industry Continues Cutting Calories in Schools, Delivering on Its Commitment to Change Beverage Mix

A new report released today shows that the beverage industry continues to significantly cut calories in schools two years into a three-year implementation period of the  national School Beverage Guidelines. The Alliance for a Healthier Generation, a joint initiative of the William J. Clinton Foundation and the American Heart Association, worked with representatives of The Coca-Cola Company, Dr Pepper Snapple Group and PepsiCo, Inc. and the American Beverage Association to establish these guidelines that limit portion sizes and reduce the number of calories available to children during the school day.  The report reflects the diligent and determined action of beverage companies to help change the landscape in schools for children across America.
