American Beverage Association Celebrates Earth Day
WASHINGTON, D.C. - American Beverage Association members are leaders in environmental stewardship and are proud to help lead the private sector in the quest for a more sustainable future.
"We're proud of the efforts being made by the beverage industry to reduce its environmental footprint. Our companies are leading the way by lightweighting packaging, using hybrid vehicles in their fleets, constructing energy efficient buildings and improving recycling," said Susan Neely, ABA president and CEO. "By using completely recyclable packaging, beverage companies are doing their part so consumers can do theirs and recycle."
America's beverage companies outlined their commitment in the Full Circle Plan, created to reinvigorate recycling in communities across the country through sharing best practices on recycling. Our industry is also a founding member of The Climate Group's Recycle Together initiative, which highlights the important role recycling plays in reducing climate change and protecting the environment.
The beverage industry is also a leader in providing ‘green jobs' for America. ABA member companies are expanding their delivery fleets to include hybrid vehicles. They are also building new recycling facilities and LEED-certified buildings, providing green jobs for the construction industry. Revolutionary manufacturing processes are saving energy and creating a market for manufacturing companies that can develop these resource-efficient processes.
"The beverage industry joins consumers in celebrating Earth Day," Neely said. "We encourage people across the nation to ‘Think Inside the Bin' and recycle their beverage containers."
