The Alliance for a Healthier Generation and America’s beverage companies today issued the first annual independent evaluation of the Balance Calories Initiative, a landmark effort to decrease beverage calories in the American diet. The Balance Calories Report on 2015 Progress lays out the ambitious work that beverage companies have undertaken to build a foundation of strategies in the marketplace that drive changes in consumer purchases and consumption.

By working to change behavior within these communities, the initiative aims to help reduce beverage calories consumed per person nationally by 20 percent by 2025 – the single-largest voluntary effort by an industry to combat obesity.

ABA Responds to Philadelphia Soda Tax Passage

The tax passed today is a regressive tax that unfairly singles out beverages – including low- and no-calorie choices.  But most importantly, it is against the law.  So we will side with the majority of the people of Philadelphia who oppose this tax and take legal action to stop it.
