The countdown to kickoff begins for Sunday’s Super Bowl XLVI. It promises to be an exciting game this year, with the New England Patriots and the New York Giants closely matched and both teams boasting star quarterbacks Tom Brady and Eli Manning.

And, if your team didn’t make it to the Super Bowl this year, the game time experience has much more to offer than just football. The half-time performance featuring Madonna with Nicky Minaj and MIA are sure to provide musical entertainment for all. And of course, we’re all excited to see what the infamous Super Bowl commercials –ranging from laugh-out-loud funny to heartwarming – have in store this year.

Whatever your favorite part of the Super Bowl game day may be, we hope you’ll remember to stock up on the essentials: refreshing non-alcoholic beverages for the whole family. The buzz has already begun over what to expect out of the teams, particularly from two star quarterbacks – Tom Brady and Eli Manning.

Whether or not your favorite team made it to the Super Bowl this year, there is something for everyone at “watch” parties around the country: a good appetizer, spending time with family and friends, the much anticipated Half-Time performance by Madonna and – of course – the commercials. For sneak-peeks and a look back, Ad Age and Hulu have paired up to bring you the best Super Bowl ads ever.

So, as the last weekend before the Super Bowl is upon us, be sure to stock up on your favorite non-alcoholic beverages for the game. With such a wide range of sizes and calorie counts – from diet and regular soft drinks, sports drinks and ready-to-drink teas to bottled and flavored waters – our member companies provide something for everyone that’s sure to keep them satisfied on the big day.

On this day in 1957, production first began on plastic aerodynamic flying discs, commonly known today as Frisbees. The concept for the Frisbee actually began almost a century earlier at a pie factory in Connecticut, established by a man named William Frisbie. The empty pie tins were popularly used as rudimentary “Flying Saucers” until a plastic version of the disc was invented and patented under a take-off name of the historic pie company. By 1977, 100 million Frisbees were sold and it had taken off as a fun and fashionable sport.

55 years later, the Frisbee is still a beloved toy across all ages and demographics. And, Frisbee playing is a great way to enjoy the outdoors and stay physically active. With games such as Frisbee Golf, Ultimate Frisbee and Freestyle Frisbee it’s the perfect sport to enjoy with a friend, a whole group of friends or even your dog!

Well, it’s Friday the 13th – that day when some people may be a little more sensitive to the events going on around them, and some fear for the worst. We came across an interesting piece on MyFox Boston’s website that lays out 13 facts about Friday the 13th, and thought you might be interested in checking it out today.

The column defines triskaidekaphobia, shares some history about this notorious date, gives some context to how people in other countries feel about it and offers a few ways to skirt bad happenings.

(Spoiler alert! The article recommends that you touch wood, cross your fingers, avoid black cats, don’t look at the full moon through a pane of glass and throw salt over each shoulder.)

We think there might be easier solutions to avoiding bad luck today, especially if there’s no salt close by, like keeping yourself hydrated – and following us on Facebook and Twitter. Okay, maybe not the latter, but we still hope you check in with us!

Whatever you superstition may or may not be on this day, we hope it turns out to be a great afternoon and evening for you!

For many, today is a day to relax – perhaps to recover from recent holiday gatherings with family and friends, or to prepare for the pressure of the fast approaching New Year’s Eve. While you’re kicking back and enjoying your favorite non-alcoholic beverage (after all, our industry provides such a wide array of choices), we thought we’d lighten things up a little…with some trivia about this day in history.

Did you know:

On this very day in 1932, Radio City Music Hall opened its doors to the public? Home to the “Rockettes” and the Radio City Christmas Spectacular, this New York institution is an integral part of holiday cheer for New Yorkers, as well as visitors from across the country and around the world.

And just 34 years later on this day, international superstars The Supremes made their first appearance on “The Ed Sullivan Show.” For our younger readers, the Motown signing group may ring a bell if you saw the film “Dreamgirls.”

On December 27, 1968, Apollo 8 ended its first orbital manned mission to the Moon, splashing down in the Pacific Ocean.

On this day in 1982, the Sports Illustrated year-end double-issue came out, featuring hockey legend Wayne Gretzky as “Sportsman of the Year.”

So if you’re out and about today, test your friends, family and colleagues to see if they are as well-informed about this day as you are.

With summer now in full swing and its sometimes oppressively warm weather hitting the east coast, it’s time for a staple of the season–the release of summer blockbuster movies. This year’s line-up features several highly anticipated, mega-budget films. Catching a movie can give some a brief reprieve and present a relaxing way to beat the heat.

We’re honing in on the Memorial Day weekend, and outside temperatures across the country are already kicking up to levels equivalent to mid-summer heat. If you’re feeling a little overheated in your hometown too, you might go check out a movie to try to keep cool and beat the heat.

Or maybe you could stay home and throw on a classic. According to History.com, it was this day in 1977 that the first in the series of Star Wars films by George Lucas debuted in movie theaters across the country. The film ended up winning seven Oscars and grossed hundreds of millions of dollars at the box office, but perhaps most importantly – it won the excitement, hearts and minds of an entire generation of fans.

But whatever you do to stay cool, be sure to get your daily dose of physical activity, too. And don’t forget to hydrate!
