Sports Drinks
The pioneer of all sports drink products is Gatorade. Developed in 1965, Gatorade was the invention of Dr. Robert Cade and a team of scientists at the University of Florida who were trying to create a beverage to alleviate hydration and muscle cramps experienced by their football players.
The plan was to develop a beverage that would restore fluids and electrolytes, the key to keeping athletes well hydrated. And so, Gatorade, named after the University of Florida mascot and filled with flavor, carbohydrate and electrolytes, was born.
The early 1990s witnessed an expansion in the sports drink arena. Today, available sports drinks include Gatorade, PowerAde, Pocari Sweat and All Sport.
