What's Inside

100% Juice and Juice Drinks

100% Pure or 100% Juice

This is juice that is directly squeezed from a fruit or vegetable. It can be made from juice concentrate reconstituted with water, and certain other ingredients, such as vitamins and minerals, may be included.

Juice Drink

A juice drink contains less than 100 percent juice, and may also contain sweeteners and water. You may recognize these juice beverages as punch, juice cocktails, sparklers or blends.

Squeezed Juice

When juice is extracted from a fruit or vegetable, then the beverage contains squeezed juice. It is not pasteurized and is kept under refrigeration.

Pasteurized Juice

Pasteurized juice is heated to destroy food-spoilage bacteria. When juice has been pasteurized, its shelf life is increased.

Chilled, Ready-to-Serve

Made from frozen concentrate or pasteurized juice, chilled, ready-to-serve juice is packaged in paper cartons, plastic or glass containers.

Not from Concentrate

This juice is from the fruit or vegetable after it is squeezed, but has never been concentrated.

From Concentrate

Juice from concentrate is similiar in nutrition to fresh squeezed juice. The process involves removing water from the whole juice, which condenses it. Water can be added later to dilute and restore the concentrate back to juice form.

Frozen Concentrate

This juice has been concentrated and frozen, and is ready to be consumed after reconstituting with water per the instructions on the container.

Frozen

Juice that is packaged and frozen without pasteurizing or further processing is called “frozen."
